Department of Education, Vytautas Magnus University

Located at K. Donelaicio str. 58, Kaunas LT-44248, Lithuania, The Department of Education at Vytautas Magnus University works in the field of adult education, and also in vocational education, and the quality of studies as well as educational management.

In 2008, the community of the Department of Education was awarded a title of the Centre of Excellence for Research in the field of lifelong learning by the Centre of Study Quality in HE at Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Lithuania.

The Department of Education was established in 1997. More than 300 students study here at the moment, more than 480 students got the diploma of graduates (master degree) during that time. Adult education is one of the priorities in this department. Applied research is focused for the questions of human recourse development and other issues. Master degree study program Management of Education is implemented by the Department. At the moment more than 200 students are enrolled in study program Management of Educational Services, and more than 150 have already graduated since 2006. Also, a program of special pedagogical professional studies (duration - 1 year) is implemented in the Department with 24 students enrolled at the moment.

A special emphasis is on vocational education, as a lot of in-service training courses, and also special pedagogical professional studies for teachers in vocational education (duration - 1 year) are implemented at the Department. Teachers are the authors of a number of books dedicated for the theme. Staff of the Department is also interested in recent learning/teachers theories and technologies, also, citizenship education.

Profile of some of the staff

Vaiva Zuzevičiūtė
Associate professor (PhD in Education in 2005, Habilitation procedure completed in 2008) at the Department of Education at the Vytautas Magnus University. Her professional experience includes teaching at Kaunas Buitininkai Vocational school (1993-96) and research at Educational Studies Centre at Vytautas Magnus University (1998-2001). V. Zuzeviciute is a member of BARAE (Baltic Association for Reserach in Adult Education); member of the editorial Board of the journal “Studies for Learning Society( ISSN 1736-7085), and member of ESREA (European Society for Research on the Education of Adults), also, national delegate of the LifeLong Learning Committee, World Committee of Education and LifeLong Learning.

Daiva Bukantaitė
PhD in Education in 2005. Her professional experience includes teaching at Vytautas Magnus University and Lithuanian academy of Music and Theater. D. Bukantaite is a national expert in European Commission project “Entrepreneurship in vocational education and training” since 2008. She has experience in European and Lithuanian projects. Her interests include research methods in social sciences, especially in educational management (learning and network organizations), marketing, and entrepreneurship.
